Sincere compliments to Tom Jensen, who gave his opinion last week on how to generate revenue. His response was to charge artists at the fair for the privilege of displaying their goods with the proceeds going to the town – not the Chamber of Commerce.
Duh! What an excellent idea. I have watched huge trucks, trailers and displays being brought into the fairs and tearing up our roads (and remaining parked here) while the town does not derive any benefit except for the sales tax.
I have also attended every Great Fair for the past 30-plus years and know that not all the artists charge sales tax. And with the taxes that we collect, is that enough to cover the damage to the roads?

And how about all the other “fun” events? Does the town derive any benefit from all of the minor fairs, fun runs, displays, car shows, festivals, etc. that bring thousands of people into Fountain Hills, tearing up the roads, all with the intention of benefiting our merchants? What merchants are we speaking of; the nine restaurants that we have?
And every one of these events offers food. How about the title companies, clothing stores, supermarkets; do they benefit from all of the traffic? Do people from Scottsdale and Phoenix come here to shop on weekends? Let’s get real.
I really would like to know why the town thinks it is so important to be labeled “A playful town.” Every time I see that signage, I laugh at the absurdity of it.
I’ve heard we are trying to attract various age ranges. Why? What’s wrong with the seniors we have living in Fountain Hills now? We are attracted here for its beauty and quiet. So, if that is continually disrupted, let the town derive some financial benefit from this.
