The smart talk recently among us residents has been how can we live within our means, make sensible cuts, possibly delay some town projects and take other action to reduce the town’s expenditures? The last thing I want is more government.
In Ginny Dickey’s town talk published on YouTube on May 11, she specifically states her plans if elected to expand the government. She mentions all the existing commissions and then states that, if elected, she would consider adding an Energy and Environmental Stewardship and Beautification Advisory Committee, a Capital Improvement and Budget Oversight Committee, revival of the Public Safety Commission, and the addition of a Neighborhood Service Committee.
When talking about the Capital Improvement Committee, she mentions that they could make decisions about our future, like “Go for it again?” if the tax fails. Is she kidding? Get the message, Ginny, no property tax.

Where does she think the staff will come from to monitor each of these town groups? How much money will it cost to support them? A few years ago the town wisely consolidated some of the commissions because of limited staffing and to save money.
Dickey then goes on to give her recommendations for additional staff if she’s elected. She would like an assistant to the town clerk, a procurement specialist, more code enforcers and an town ombudsman. With salaries and benefits, how much would all these positions cost?
I don’t want more government. Live within your means like the rest of us. I think Ginny Dickey is so out of touch with the residents. I’m voting for less government. I’m voting for Cecil Yates.
