Plenty of prizes will be raffled for free as part of the second annual Fountain Hills Bike Safety Rodeo.
It will be held Saturday, Jan. 28, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the McDowell Mountain Elementary School campus on Fayette Drive.
Designed primarily for preschoolers to fifth graders, the bike rodeo will include safety inspections of bicycles, bike helmet checks and safety-oriented obstacle courses designed to teach safe riding practices and the rules of the road.
The Noon Kiwanis Club is organizing the bike rodeo in cooperation with Fountain Hills Bikes and the Fountain Hills Unified School District.
The mission of Kiwanis International is “serving the children of the world.”
Club President Ken Brown said, “One way to serve children is to help them be safe in today’s world.
“Riding bikes around town should include following the rules of the road and being aware of safety issues such as wearing helmets and obeying traffic laws.
“That’s what this bike safety event is all about.”
The Noon Kiwanis Club and Fountain Hills Bikes are working together to come up with some great free raffle prizes for participants.
Anticipated prizes include a new children’s bicycle, bike helmets, water bottles and other bike-related items.
Participation certificates will be given to all riders.
Bernie Hoenle, president-elect of the Noon Kiwanis Club, is chairing the rodeo.
“We’re anticipating a greater turnout this year, and we hope this event becomes bigger and better each January,” he said. “We switched the venue to McDowell Mountain Elementary School to hopefully boost the number of participants.
“We thank the School District for its help and cooperation in this event.
“This is intended to be a fun and educational event all at the same time.”
Refreshments and snacks will be available.
