PHOENIX — Arizona cities aren’t going to get a chance to limit the number or placement of short-term rentals.
But they will get some additional oversight of what has become in some communities an explosion of homes bought up by investors to be turned into lodging for tourists — and the problems that some cities have said they have caused.
By a wide margin, the state House on Tuesday approved legislation to allow cities to limit the number of people who can occupy homes and condos that are being rented out by their owners. That is the first time that has happened since the state first restricted local regulation of short-term rentals like Airbnb.
