Blatant cruelty

There are few events as blatantly cruel as rodeos. It is shameful that millions of people still attend these events every year, let alone pay to take the whole family and neighborhood to watch the horror, intense fear and dread inflicted on such gentle, docile animals.

Forced to ingest performance-enhancing mixtures to make horses run faster, many horses are routinely injured and killed in racing events. Bulls and horses are beaten, electrically prodded, choked and maimed. The most horrific event is the calf roping — men exercising their juvenile brutality by roping and tackling terrified calves, some as young as eight weeks old.

Rodeos, along with hunting, occur under the guise of preserving our American culture and heritage. How appalling! Out of the view of the spectators (of course), these animals are being painfully cinched around the waist and testicles, and their testicles are electrically prodded.

How many of you have watched a 200-pound bully, brute, ox, thug or moron rope a young calf in amusement? Calf wrestling is a blatant, pathetic, macho form of animal abuse – and of babies no less!

Children even get to tackle foals, abusing the same young horses repeatedly, causing lameness and pain issues the rest of their lives.

Many rodeo participants love to use electric prods to drive the horses and bulls to the brink of insanity while digging spurs into the sides of the tormented animals they are riding. One more atrocity inflicted upon animals by man (speciesism).

Consider Meatless Mondays.
