The School Board Wednesday evening accepted the resignation of Fountain Hills High School science teacher and varsity volleyball coach Christie Slegers.
The board met in a closed-door executive session for about 45 minutes and then in a public session to unanimously accept her resignation.
Slegers' credentials came into question after a local parent started investigating her background, determining from outside sources she had not obtained an Olympic silver medal in volleyball and that she had not received a doctorate degree from St. Cloud State University.

The School Board immediately went back into executive session to discuss another matter, along with School Superintendent Tom Lawrence, so none of them were available for comment. FHHS Principal Tom Brennan said press inquiries would have to be made to the district office. Slegers had served as a long-term substitute at the high school before being brought on as regular staff during the 2013-14 academic year.
