The Fountain Hills Unified School District Governing Board considered a food service management agreement renewal and price increases for the 2016-17 academic year during the meeting held April 13.
At the meeting, the board considered a proposal to continue with food management company Sodexo for the next academic year, as well as a small meal rate increase for local schools. If approved, it is expected that this rate will continue to rise in small steps annually until FHUSD matches the reimbursable rate of free/reduced meals.
According to Assistant Superintendent of Business Operations Dr. Robert Allen, FHUSD food services opened at a deficit this year and, with these meal price increases, the district could work toward closing that debt. Allen added that Sodexho has been covering FHUSD’s shortfall on a monthly basis this past school year.

No price change would be seen on the breakfast menu, but the proposed changes include a lunch shift of $2.60 to $2.75 at McDowell Mountain Elementary School, $2.80 to $2.90 at Four Peaks/Middle School and $2.95 to $3.00 at the high school.
The board will vote on this item at the April 27 meeting.
