Board members reject ESA vouchers in Fountain Hills

As they apply to athletics

At the Fountain Hills Unified School District (FHUSD) governing board meeting Aug. 27, ESA vouchers were a hot topic.

An Empowerment Scholarship Account (ESA) can be used to pay for curriculum, learning resources, private school tuition or educational treatments for students with disabilities by any citizen of Arizona who has a school-age child.

Members of the public speaking during the meeting, however, had a problem with home school students using ESA vouchers for participating in public school sports. Those individuals believed home schools wouldn’t have the same academic and behavior standard protocols as the public school students must follow.
