Bosnos: Skillicorn’s sanctions humiliated our town
What a sad spectacle we saw at the March 19 town council meeting, with the continuation of what appears to be a quest to drive Councilman Skillicorn from the council.
First, various speakers castigated Skillicorn during call to the public. Apparently forgetting that speakers must address their remarks to the chair, they repeatedly called out Skillicorn by name and spoke directly to him – or at him. It was ugly.
Skillicorn was censured. But that was not enough. He was then “sanctioned” with a string of ridiculous measures. It was interesting that, as Councilwoman McMahon began reading the list of punishments to be visited on Skillicorn, she stopped mid-sentence and asked Mayor Dickey, “Should I keep going?” In my view, this whole show was an angry, vengeful, coordinated effort to “get Skillicorn.”

Most outrageous of all were the solemn assertions by the councilmembers involved that they “regretted” having to do this. Really? They appeared so giddy with power that I thought they might levitate right out of their chairs.
They think that they humiliated Councilman Skillicorn. But they are mistaken. They humiliated only themselves. And our town.
