Ellen and Chris met on the flight deck of HMS Minerva back in August 1973 at a cocktail party hosted by the ship’s officers.
Ellen was a member of the Queen’s Court during the 350th anniversary of the founding of Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
Chris says, “It was a magical night, a magical week of celebrations during HMS Minerva’s port visit and a magical 40 years.”
After 18 months of long distance dating, Chris returned to Portsmouth for their marriage on Dec. 28, 1974.
The groom was married in the uniform of an officer in the Royal Marine Commandos. The couple, upon leaving the church, was met at the doorway by the crossed swords of U.S. Marines.
Ellen and Chris have been residents of Fountain Hills since 1983.
