Fountain Hills High School Athletic Director and baseball coach Mike Briguglio has been named the 2016 3A Conference Arizona Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association Athletic Director of the Year.
Briguglio explained that voting occurs at the end of the calendar year, with the award to be officially presented at the AIAAA fall conference.
“I actually wasn’t at the meeting because we were hosting a tournament that day,” Briguglio said.
“But then I got an email letting me know that I had been nominated and that it was a unanimous vote so, yes, it was a humbling experience.”
Briguglio said that, on a local scale, he’s seen as the baseball coach and FHHS Athletic Director. The job, though, goes a bit beyond that.
“It’s a nice feeling, knowing that your contribution, not just to your school, but to your state has been recognized.”
Briguglio has been on the Baseball Advisory Committee for six years and served as president of the conference twice. He’s also been president of the region three times, along with various other committee positions such as Hardship Appeals, Scheduling, etc. through the AIA.
“It’s a labor of love, but it’s certainly a humbling, special thing to be honored by your colleagues,” Briguglio added.
