Broken promises
Posted
Martha Iskyan
During his campaign, President Trump promised much. Let’s compare those promises with his actions.
Syria: When Obama asked for permission in 2013, Trump rejected intervention. Syria has recently been bombed.
Russia: Trump lavished praise on Putin and Russia. On April 5, he stated “relations are worse than ever.”
NATO: He deemed NATO as obsolete. Now it is no longer obsolete.
Tax reform: Two weeks ago, he said that tax reform was his top priority. He appointed a Wall Street financier to lead the treasury and finances. Talk of tax reform has disappeared.
Travel: Before, he said that he “would rarely leave the White House.” At his present rate, he will outspend Obama’s travel expenses in a single year.
Prescription drug prices: Before, he said that drug manufacturers would be pressured into reducing prices. After a meeting with industry leaders, his revered deal-making has disappeared.
Release of tax returns: He promised he would release his tax forms, but no, in spite of demonstrations by the public, he has not released his returns.
Employment figures: As a candidate he stated that unemployment figures were fake. Now that he is President, and the figures are favorable, they are valid.
Business: As candidate, he vowed that he would give up his businesses. Instead, he has passed the day to day operation to his sons. He does not comply with ethical standards or the Constitution.
The above are a few of the President’s many broken promises. His promises change rapidly as circumstances change. By any logical standard, he cannot be trusted by the citizens of our country, and the leaders of other countries.
