Today is March 27 and as I write this, the Four Peaks are shrouded in a gunky haze that may be a toxic combo of brown cloud and bad ozone. After over 40 years in the Valley it has given me a lethal mix of heart and respiratory disease.
Since I can’t handle the dirty air any more, we’ve been forced to become seasonal residents in Oregon to try and salvage what’s left of my health. The Arizona Republic rewarded my 20-year advocacy by slapping a big hazy photo of my bald dome on the front page a couple of years ago.
I’m writing this because we have a lackluster State Legislature where few of them care about us, least of all our lead representative John Kavanagh, who specializes in racism and sundry other misguided causes.

I haven’t targeted his politics, mind you, just his lack of concern for humankind. We deserve better.
