Brush fire at McDowell Mountain Regional Park

Approximately 60 acres charred

Posted

Firefighters from Fountain Hills and other agencies responded to a brush fire burning in McDowell Mountain Regional Park on Wednesday, Aug. 21.

The call came out to a remote area of the park late morning Wednesday. The fire reportedly burned about 60 acres and was not a threat to populated areas or structures. Maricopa County did close the park for a time while firefighters were working.

A crew with Tonto National Forest was still working Thursday morning to reinforce fire lines and mopping up.

Fountain Hills Fire Chief said the cause of the fire was “most likely lightning.”
