OPINION — I heard what happened to Pete Buttigieg and I’m completely shaken! On top of that, the unfathomable ruling of SCOTUS clearing the way for this administration to deport Haitians and Syrians, here legally under Temporary Protected Status (for those from countries considered too dangerous to return). DACA residents are also living in fear again, as are all people with non-white skin. What have we become?
Never have we seen such government-sponsored cruelty, bigotry lack of empathy for other humans, self-enrichment and grifting by the leader. Trump stands up at every opportunity and blatantly deceives about what we see with our own eyes. He says our economy was dead under Biden but is now “hot”? Really? We’re now respected by other countries? Just the opposite is true! Trump is a laughingstock and untrusted by allies.
But what’s most disturbing is Republicans in Congress, who know and have voiced their concerns but refuse to push back on Trump’s abuse of power, personal enrichment, potential war crimes, destruction of our White House, mass and indiscriminate deportations, bigotry-based firings of our most experienced leaders, underfunding or understaffing of departments meant to prevent terrorist attacks, construction of concentration camps, etc. They’ve let Trump make us much less safe and very much on our own in the world. Bullying and threatening have taken the place of diplomacy and have obviously failed in Iran.
