Burrowing owl is topic for bird club
Posted
The Parrot of the Hills Bird Club of Fountain Hills will meet Friday, Nov. 7, at 7 p.m. at Joy Christian Community Church, 13430 N. Saguaro Blvd.
The topic will be burrowing owl relocation and conservation.
These charming little owls live and raise their young underground, so they are at risk of being buried alive during construction projects.
Come learn how Greg Clark has been instrumental in revolutionizing burrowing owl conservation in Arizona through the implementation of innovative relocation procedures developed by Wild at Heart.
There will be discussion about where displaced owls come from, the role of the care facility at Wild at Heart to hold the owls, the process of habitat selection for artificial burrows and the process of relocation using release tents.
Clark will also bring one of the burrowing owls used for education.
The evening will include the feature presentation, a special owl- themed raffle with a variety of items for people, parrots and emergency supply items, refreshments and a special guest owl.
The purpose of the parrot club is to bring parrot enthusiasts together for monthly socials, to share ideas and knowledge and attract expert speakers to become more educated on various avian-related topics.
If interested in attending contact Lori Bell by email at bellsflock@cox.net or call 480-836-9585.
