Calvin L. Bauer

Posted

Calvin Lyle Bauer was born in Holdrege, Neb. on Nov. 15, 1944. He died Nov. 12, 2013.

His family moved to Boulder, Colo. when he was very young. He graduated from Boulder High School in 1962 and the University of Colorado in 1970 where he played varsity baseball. His dream was to play professional baseball but was drafted and spent two years in Korea (1968-1970) as a Military Policeman.

He spent his working career selling computers and copy machines, moving where the jobs would take him.... Midland, Texas, Littleton, Colo., Anaheim, Calif., Fountain Hills and finally, Bellingham, Wash. to be close to his daughter and her family.

Just recently Cal and Nancy purchased a house in Sun City, Ariz. to spend winters there and summers in Bellingham. No matter where Cal was, he made life-long friendships.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Nancy Lough Bauer of Bellingham; his daughter and her husband, Tiffany and Dana Bidne of Snohomish, Wash. Also surviving are his three wonderful grandchildren, Anastasia, Simon and Andrea Bidne of Snohomish, his sister and her husband, Cleo and Dominic Papagni, of Fresno, Calif. and 17 cousins, two aunts and one uncle. He will also be missed by his three special dogs, Bianca, Lakota and Maggie.

Cal was a true outdoorsman; he loved to hunt, fish, and crab, anything that included being in nature. One of his joys was to take his grandchildren camping during the summer as well as fishing and crabbing any chance he got. He loved to share his knowledge and gifts.

He was very active in Northlake Community Church where he loved working with the children, going on campouts, teaching them to fish, cooking for Bible Camp and generally being with them.

In Arizona he taught archery at camps for physically challenged children, including assisting in the development of a system so that children who were deaf and blind could learn archery. In Midland, Texas he coached elementary school football, Permian Basin Youth Football, getting those kids ready for Friday night lights.

Cal was also a member of Demolay and the Elks Club in Boulder. Most of his working experience was in sales. He loved all sports, the New York Yankees and his Denver Broncos games were never missed. Except if there was a hunting trip planned.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Whatcom Hospice House, Northlake Community Church or the animal shelter/rescue of your choice.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, Nov. 21, at Northlake Community Church, Bellingham, Wash.
