Camouflage

Camouflage: “Altering an appearance by means of disguise. Behavior that’s designed to deceive and hide.”

For me -- exaggerations, lies, concealments, equivocations and understatements are forms of camouflage. When I look at today’s politicians I see officials behind masks, hiding from what they’ve done and shirking their responsibilities. It’s so difficult to find out what’s exactly going on in D.C. Think the ole camouflage trick is working on us?

Some tricks that come to mind. Politicians blatantly overstating their characteristics and exceptional qualities and devout feelings, that’s exaggeration. Looking constituents straight in the eye and knowingly spewing falsehoods, that’s lying. Intentionally omitting relevant data that would alter the facts, that’s concealment. Making contradictory statements on the same subject, that’s equivocation. Downplaying the severity of a problem to minimize its impact, that’s understating. Think it will ever stop?

A couple of examples of deception. Benghazi deaths using a movie as cover. Or maybe, the E-mails gone missing at the IRS. How about, killing veterans through lack of timely treatment?

However, there is no absence of excuses or evasion. One move to sidetrack us that’s popular today is we can’t solve the problem now because we want to be sure we don’t lose any seats in the Congress, we must stay in office. I wonder if they actually realize their problem. More importantly, do we realize their problem? Shouldn’t we tell them with our votes?

Aristotle said: “We are what we repeatedly do.” If we believe Aristotle, aren’t our politicians what they repeatedly do, and isn’t that fail? Even with camouflage, isn’t it clear that our country is in turmoil and represented by non-performing officials?

Don’t you think it’s a small-minded person who believes camouflage will bring popularity and stature?

What do ya say, let’s replace our elected officials.
