Candidates report spending, revenue

By today it’s all over but the tedious tally of the ballots, yet the campaign for Town Council cost the four candidates more than $16,000 in total as of Friday, Aug. 22, when their pre-primary election finance reports were due.

The four managed to raise a total of $20,788 to wage their campaigns for a job that pays $400 per month.

The one man who has never had his name on a ballot in Fountain Hills before managed to raise the greatest amount. Alan Magazine reported he had brought in a total of $6,779 in donations, including $1,475 of his own money. He had spent $5,593 by the end of the reporting period.

By today it’s all over but the tedious tally of the ballots, yet the campaign for Town Council cost the four candidates more than $16,000 in total as of Friday, Aug. 22, when their pre-primary election finance reports were due.

The four managed to raise a total of $20,788 to wage their campaigns for a job that pays $400 per month.

The one man who has never had his name on a ballot in Fountain Hills before managed to raise the greatest amount. Alan Magazine reported he had brought in a total of $6,779 in donations, including $1,475 of his own money. He had spent $5,593 by the end of the reporting period.

Former Mayor Sharon Morgan was among those contributing to Magazine’s campaign with a $100 donation.

Incumbent Councilman Henry Leger reported raising $5,949 and spending $5,113.

Fellow Council Member Dennis Brown donated $800 to Leger’s campaign.

Making his second try for a council seat after an unsuccessful effort in 2012, Nick DePorter raised $5,270 for his campaign. He reports spending $4,335.

DePorter had support from Mayor Linda Kavanagh ($100), Brown ($500) and former Mayor Jay Schlum ($60).

The Realtors Association of Arizona PAC donated $500 each to the campaigns of DePorter, Leger and Magazine.

Lina Bellenir reported she had raised $2,790 for her campaign. She had spent $1,368 for the effort.

Bellenir had the support of Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio and his wife, Ava ($150), and Mayor Kavanagh and her husband, Representative John Kavanagh ($300).
