Carlton Jerry Wise of Fountain Hills, AZ passed away 10/13/2026 at the age of 83, Jerry was born September 7, 1943 in Akron, Ohio to Pauline (Warner) and Carlton Wise. He is survived by his wife Linda (Lyn) and his two children, Kristin Micalizo of Dallas, TX and Kurt L. Wise of Minneapolis, MN and his sister Lynn Z. White and niece Kara Smith of Queen Creek, AZ. He also leaves behind his five Grandchildren. Jerry grew up in the Akron and Mogadore, Ohio area and attended Akron Central High School and Suffield High School. In 1961 he joined and began his adventure in the U.S, Navy. During the next 22 years in the U.S. Navy, he served aboard nine vessels with two tours of shore duty. He was especially proud to serve as an instructor and company officer at the Naval Officer Candidate School in Newport, RI. As a teenager all he wanted to do was see the world, and he did. During his navy career he spent years home ported in Hawaii, San Diego, Alameda, Long Beach, Norfolk and three years aboard a ship operating out of Yokosuka, Japan. During these years he was able to advance through the enlisted and Warrant Officer and Commissioned Officer ranks. He retired in 1983 as a Lieutenant Commander (Surface Warfare). He is also a Vietnam Veteran after making 6 deployments to the Gulf of Tonkin aboard various warships during that conflict. He is a Life N4ember of Mogadore VFW Post 8487 and a member of American Legion Post #58 Fountain Hills, AZ. He was proud of his service to our country and grateful for skills he learned in the Navy. He received numerous awards during his career including the Combat Action Medal. After retirement from the Navy he went work for AT&T in Greensboro, NC as an undersea cable engineer. During the next 15 years he continued to see more of the world working aboard various government and commercial cable ships. His work was centered around undersea cable repairs and new cable installations. With the introduction of undersea fiber optic communication cables his job became very demanding. During this same period his group at AT&T was purchased by Lucent Technologies, but his work remained unchanged until he retired. One of the high points during his years in NC was working with and becoming friends with some of the finest people on earth. He was forever thankful for these special friends and shipmates. It was also during this time period that he met a young nurse while on an assignment in the United Kingdom and after a short engagement they were married! Jerry always believed that destiny played a major part in his finding and marrying the love of his life and best friend for the next 41 years! After retirement from Lucent, he formed his own Undersea Cable Consulting firm and spent the next several years overseeing new fiber optic cable installations in the Mediterranean and the far east. During this time, he spent long periods of time aboard both French and Italian cable vessels. After these years at sea and separated from his loved ones he finally dropped anchor here in Fountain Hills. One of his achievements he is most proud of are his years as a member of Fountain Hills ADOG’s board of directors. He served as the President of ADOG during part of this period. He was able to help raise the required funds to help get lights in the dog park. He also oversaw the Paws Around the Fountain during the events first four years. During these events at Fountain Park over 500 pets found loving homes. His love for pets continued until his passing. Hopefully he has joined his many four-legged loved ones for his final cruise!
