Work has begun on planned improvements to the Centennial Circle plaza in the Town of Fountain Hills Civic Center. The circle forms a central open area surrounded by the Community Center, Library/Museum and the future International Dark Sky Discovery Center.
People passing through the area currently will find red and yellow caution tape surrounding sections, as workers have begun removing structures slated for replacement or relocation. This includes public art pieces, monuments depicting the Arizona 5-Cs of economic vitality and benches. The Centennial Circle was constructed in 2012 as part of the State of Arizona’s statehood centennial celebration. Weather and age have taken a toll on some of the structures originally installed.
“The Centennial Circle is a large and under-utilized space. The renovation … is a capital improvement project (CIP),” Town Community Services Director Kevin Snipes said. “This CIP project is designed to make the new pavilion area become a programmable space that can be utilized by multiple departments and promoters to host many outdoor events as well as become a revenue generator.”
