Chabad celebrates Sukkot

Joining Jews around the world, the Fountain Hills Jewish community will celebrate the holiday of Sukkot, the “Holiday of Booths,” this year from the evening of Friday, Sept. 29, to Sunday, Oct. 8.

During this holiday, meals are eaten in a temporary hut called a “Sukkah.”

This year, Chabad of Fountain Hills is hosting a Sushi and Salads Sukkah Party Wednesday, Oct. 4, at 5:30 p.m. in the Edelman Jewish Center.

“The temporary booths emphasize how we all live under God’s protection,” a press release read. “Rituals of the holiday include assembling four different kinds of plants, most notably the citron (‘etrog’) which has a strong, sweet smell, as well as a palm branch and twigs from a willow and myrtle bush.”

Reciting the appropriate blessings while feasting in the Sukkah is one of many Chabad holiday programs that offers Jews the opportunity to learn the significance of holiday rituals and perform them with their families.

The Edelman Jewish Center is located at 16830 E. Avenue of the Fountains. The cost is $15.

For more information, contact the Chabad office at 480-795-6292 or make a reservation online at Jewishfountainhills.com/sukkahparty.
