Chabad sets services for Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur

The month of September holds two very important holidays for the Jewish faith, Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, and the Chabad Edelman Jewish Center in Fountain Hills will be hosting services for both holidays.

“According to Jewish tradition, on the Jewish New Year, the doors of Heaven are open. G-d accepts prayers from everyone,” Lubavitch Rabbi Mendy Lipskier said. “The least we can do is open our doors as well, to the entire community.”

The services will be accessible to Jewish people of all different faith levels.

“The Lubavitcher Rebbe, of righteous memory, insisted that Judaism is accessible to all Jews,” Lipskier continued. “During the Jewish High Holidays, accessibility can translate into different factors for different people, such as a non-judgmental atmosphere, affordability of the services, or the ability for a beginner to follow along. Our goal is to lower the barriers of entry and encourage each and every Jew to actively participate in these most holy and introspective days.”

There will be two options for Rosh Hashanah services. Option one is regular service on Sept. 19 or 20 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:25 p.m. The second option is only for Sept. 20 and is a shofar service in the parking lot behind the Chabad from 11:30 to 11:45 a.m.

For Yom Kippur, on the evening of Sept. 27, a Kol Nidrei service will be held at 6:10 p.m. On Yom Kippur day, Sept. 28, morning service will be held at 9:30 a.m., Yizkor Memorial service will be at noon and Mincha and Neilah service will be held at 4:30 p.m.

For those unable to attend any services, there is also the choice of picking up a High Holiday Prayer Book to use at home. Reserve online or call ahead at 480-795-6292. Space at all services will be limited to 18 men and 18 women. Masks are required and social distancing will be implemented.
