Glen Hamer, president and chief executive officer of the Arizona Chamber of Commerce, will be the speaker at the Fountain Hills Republican Club meeting Saturday, Aug. 15, at 9 a.m. at the Community Center.

Since 1974, the Chamber has been the leading statewide business advocate at the Arizona Capitol and with the Arizona Congressional delegation.

Its diverse membership employs 250,000 employees in all business sectors from manufacturing to service and includes small, medium and large employers.

Their guiding principles include promoting a globally competitive tax climate; decreasing the regulatory burden on business; sustaining a strong work force; maintaining a strong infrastructure; and supporting economic development and diversification.

Since becoming CEO in 2006, Hamer has overseen the chamber’s development into one of the most respected pro-business entities in the state.

A graduate of Cornell University’s School of Industrial and Labor Relations and Arizona’s State University College of Law, Hamer has extensive experience in the energy industry having served as executive director of Solar Energy Industries Association.

Other positions he has occupied have been as chief of staff for Congressman Matt Salmon, executive director of the Arizona Republican Party and as legislative assistant to U.S. Senator Jon Kyl.

Meetings are open to all interested persons. No reservation is necessary. Complimentary coffee and light breakfast refreshments are served at 8:30 a.m. during the “Meet and Greet” period.

In addition to the regular monthly meetings, the club meets for a social evening at a local restaurant that provides an opportunity for members and prospective members to get to know each other.

The next social will be Tuesday, Aug. 25 at 6 p.m. at Desert Dave’s Old Digs. No reservations; no speeches; just good conversation.

Members should place Saturday, Oct. 17 on their calendars for the club’s Fall Forum. This event is replacing the annual picnic. It will be a late afternoon event at the Presbyterian Church Hall.

More information will be available at the August meeting or by visiting www.fhrepublicanclub.org
