Chamber fiasco

When is the Town Council going to realize the Chamber of Commerce has been lining their pockets with town funds for years, with the town receiving little benefit?

The money subsidized to the Chamber is outrageous. Now the president needs a year before he leaves? The town should take over the fair, cut off funds to the Chamber, and do their own public relations and tourism promotion.

It could be handled by two new employees, and the town would still be ahead of the game financially.

Businesses in this town do not get any financial benefit from the Chamber’s presence. The Chamber is here to make $$$ for the president and the payroll of the too many employees.

They continue to stonewall on their income and expenses, and this has been going on for years.

(Editor’s Note: The Chamber of Commerce has notified the town that as of Dec. 31, 2013 it would no longer accept town money for the Tourism Bureau and tourism promotion under a previously approved contract between the Chamber and town.)
