Although the Fountain Hills Chamber Players’ regular season is over, there is one more opportunity to hear this professional classical music ensemble this spring.
The group will perform Saturday, March 22, at 7 p.m. at Taliesin West, presenting a program of trios and a sextet.
Carl Maria von Weber’s Trio for Flute, Cello, and Piano in G minor will open the concert. Jenna Daum, flute; Mark Engelsman, cello; and Alice Brovan, piano; will perform this work, in which listeners may hear bits and pieces of some of Weber’s other, more familiar compositions.

Stylistically spanning the classical and romantic periods, this piece combines aspects of both eras, resulting in some interesting twists and turns.
Clarinetist Ben Holskin, violinist Sarah Schreffler and pianist Alice Brovan will perform Aram Khachaturian’s Trio for Clarinet, Violin, and Piano.
This work, though contemporary, contains all the exotic modality of this composer’s Armenian-Russian heritage. His most recognized works include music from his ballet “Spartacus” and his famous “Sabre Dance,” both of which are often played on local classical music radio stations.
Miguel del Aguila, composer of Salon Buenos Aires, was born in Uruguay, which has as vigorous a claim on the tango as Argentina has. In this sextet, violist Patricia Cosand joins the rest of the ensemble in the final work, a modern Latin piece that takes even further the tango/classical fusion language championed by today’s best known Latin music composer, Astor Piazzolla.
Following the concert there will be a wine reception hosted by Lawrence Dunham Vineyards. Tickets, which include the concert and reception, are $25. Taliesin West is located at 12345 Frank Lloyd Wright Drive in Scottsdale.
Tickets can be purchased at the door or ordered ahead of time by sending a check to Fountain Hills Chamber Players, P.O. Box 17622, Fountain Hills, AZ 85269. For more information, contact Alice Brovan at 480-816-5020 or email: azfhcp@gmail.org.
