Changes in the works to expand Palisades Center

Two major expansions are in the planning stages for the retail center at the corner of Palisades Boulevard and LaMontana Drive.

Owner Steve Cadwallader said he has signed a “letter of intent” to bring AutoZone, one of the nation’s leading retailers of automotive replacement car parts, to the business center.

Cadwallader said the current Recycled Home store would be demolished and a free-standing 7,000-square-foot AutoZone would be built.

A free-standing 12,000-square-foot building would be constructed on a vacant parcel next to HD Asian Bistro to accommodate Recycled Home, a resale business of pre-owned furniture and home décor accessories.

The new store would have 16-foot-high ceilings.

Cadwallader’s wife, Cathy, has operated the recycled business since 2015.

If plans come together smoothly, Cadwallader said construction could be completed by the end of the year.

“There are always things that can come up and slow down a project, so nothing is done until it’s done,” said Cadwallader. “But based upon what I know, it’s very likely to move forward this year.”

The design of the AutoZone store would be similar to a store completed last month on the corner of Pima and Indian School Roads. Cadwallader said he was involved in the development of that property.

Brooklyn Bedding, another unoccupied but lease unit and the Asian restaurant will remain intact.

AutoZone sells new and remanufactured car parts, maintenance items and car accessories.

AutoZone start with one store in Forrest City, Arkansas, in 1979. The concept was to follow the characteristics found in supermarkets – a clean, well-organized store, accessible products and great customer service – could be applied to the automotive parts business.

The company’s annual sales now total more than $8.1 billion. AutoZone serves customers in 48 states, Mexico and Puerto Rico and employs more than 65,000.
