Charles Joseph Brennan, “Joe,” passed away in his home in Fountain Hills on Monday, April 10.

He was predeceased by his daughter, Kathleen. Joe met his beloved wife in the spring of 59 and it was love at first sight. He is survived by his devoted wife, Betty, and his cherished children, Owen, Maureen, and Michelle; his adored grandchildren, Caitlin, Connor and Emily and his loved siblings, Maureen and Larry.

After completing his enlistment in the US Army, he completed his BA in business at St. John's University. He retired from the Fire Department of New York after 31 years of service. His last and longest posting was as a lieutenant of Engine 26 covering the garment district of Manhattan.

After retirement, Joe ran a food bank in Newburgh, N.Y. Joe was also the first lay person to serve as bursar for Oblates of Mary Immaculate. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Legion of Mary, and the St. Vincent De Paul Society.

Joe was an avid sportsman and played softball for the FDNY and continued to play well into his retirement in local area senior softball leagues. A funeral mass will be held at the Church of the Ascension, Fountain Hills on Thursday, April 20 at 10 a.m. and reception to follow.
