'Chitty Chitty, Bang Bang' starts at theater

Fantas-magorical! Take a fantastic musical adventure with an out-of-this-world car that flies through the air and sails the seas. Based on the beloved 1968 film version of Ian Fleming’s children’s book, and featuring an unforgettable score by the Sherman Brothers (Mary Poppins), Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is one family-friendly blockbuster that audiences will find “truly scrumptious.”

Shows will be during the weekends from Sept. 2-18 at the Fountain Hills Theater. Showings are Thursday, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m.

An eccentric inventor, Caractacus Potts sets about restoring an old race car from a scrap heap with the help of his children, Jeremy and Jemima. They soon discover the car has magical properties including the ability to float and take flight. Trouble occurs when the evil Baron Bomburst desires the magic car for himself. The family joins forces with Truly Scrumptious and batty Grandpa Potts to outwit the dastardly Baron and Baroness and their villainous henchman, the Child Catcher.

Presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI), all authorized performance materials are also supplied by MTI.

Chitty Chitty, Bang Bang is produced by Anne Kelleher, directed by Peter J. Hill, choreographed by Noel Irick and musically directed by Jennifer Whiting.

The show stars Chad Campbell, Benjamin and Elizabeth Campbell, Peter J. Hill, Henry Male, Darryl Poenisch, Roger Prenger, Patrick Russo, Kim Cooper Schmidt, Asher Sheppard, Gina Tomkus and Richard Wells. Ensemble includes; Justian Corliss, Karissa Anderson-Self, Colleen Corliss, Sharla Curtis, Sky Donovan, Katie Lambert, Kendra Lytle, Karl Perry, Nicholas Rowe, Eric Williams, Audrey Alcorn, Allison Avery, Arwen Corliss, Landon Corliss, Keegan Corliss, Elle Feinstein, Parker Glenn, Alexis Hummel, Erin Schumacher, Amelia Tomasello and Isabella Valdivieso.

A reception will be held on opening night for all those attending that evening, featuring free appetizers and soft drinks. Individual tickets are $35 for adults and $28 for children 17 and under. Seniors receive a $5 discount on all Thursday performances. Group rates and student rush discounts are available. Veterans receive 50 percent off for up to two tickets while active duty and immediate family are free up to four tickets.

All performances are at Fountain Hills Theater on its Mainstage at 11445 N. Saguaro Blvd., the Corner of Saguaro and Rand.
