Mayor Linda Kavanagh’s LTE recently bragged about helping the town to avoid any property taxes — a very politically popular talking point.
What she didn’t tell people was the terrible state of our economy and the resulting lack of maintenance of our streets and other infrastructure. She also didn’t tell people that she supports her husband, Sen. Kavanagh’s, state concerns to the detriment of our local government, allowing the state to virtually blackmail us to do as they wish.
So much for the idea of the primacy of local government.

This year, we finally have a choice for Mayer of Fountain Hills. I’d like to offer my strong support for write-in candidate Ginny Dickey. She is a long-time, very active and involved resident who fell in love with our town the minute she came over the hill on Shea Boulevard in 1983 and she has been actively involved in the town ever since, having served two terms on School Board and eight years on Town Council, among many other involvements.
She’s extremely knowledgeable in both state and local politics, listens to all views and will be balanced in her decision-making and respectful in her dealings with others. We need that fairness in our local government.
Over 90 percent of the respondents to the Vision Survey support a small property tax to pay for those things our town needs. Ginny will work with the Town Council to implement the ideas brought out in the survey, maintain our infrastructure, improve our financial stability and support smart development and maintenance of our natural beauty.
Please check Ginny’s proposals and policies on her website, ginnydickey4mayor.com, and vote for her on Aug. 30 by writing in her name and connecting the arrow on the ballot. You need to do both for your vote to count!
