Christ's Church celebrates 30

Posted

On May 4, 1984 a brand new church called Christ’s Church of Fountain Hills was started.

The non-denominational Christian church was founded by Pastor Don Lawrence.

Now, three decades later, Christ’s Church will celebrate its 30th anniversary as a congregation.

“It’s been an incredible 30 years,” Lawrence shared. “We have been blessed with some amazing church members who have helped build a tremendous congregation.”

Originally located in the Enterprise Plaza and then in a small building at the corner of Enterprise and Panorama, the church now sits on five and a half acres at the corner of Bainbridge and Glenbrook.

Lawrence has led the congregation through two major building programs. The church now enjoys a state-of-the-art 400 seat sanctuary.

“There’s no doubt that the Lord has guided, led and blessed our church,” Lawrence said. “I am extremely blessed to pastor such a vibrant congregation.”

One of the core values Lawrence said he established the church upon was Biblically-based ministry to the entire family.

“We have placed a heavy emphasis on children and teen ministries,” Lawrence explained. “As a result, we have been very pleased to have families of all ages involved in the life of the church.”

Christ’s Church is the home of the only Christian preschool in Fountain Hills -- Promiseland Christian Preschool.

Lawrence added, “We also have special programs for our senior adults such as monthly pot lucks and monthly field trips.”

Lawrence also referenced the church’s missions work as one of the ongoing core values of the church

Lawrence said, “We’ve built homes for the homeless in Mexico, worked with AIDS orphans in Africa, served among the destitute in Peru, interacted with children in the Dominican Republic, participated in many work projects with Navajo and Apache mission organizations.”

Closer to home, church members are involved with the local Extended Hands Food Bank, Paz de Cristo soup kitchen, New Day Center shelter for women, and feeding the homeless through Bread of Life Ministries.

Lawrence described their Sunday morning worship service as, “vibrant.”

He added, “Contemporary praise music presented by talented vocalists and several instruments provides an opportunity for enthusiastic, heartfelt worship.”

The church invites the Fountain Hills community to join it for its 30th anniversary celebration Sunday, May 4.

Activities will begin at 8:30 a.m. with cinnamon rolls and coffee or juice. Proceeds from this breakfast will go to the Extended Hands Food Bank.

At 9:30 the church’s Praise Team will provide a pre-service concert in the sanctuary. The celebration service will be at 10 a.m.

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. the church will host a carnival with activities for all ages. This includes zip-lines, bungee jumps, rock wall climbing, water slides and more. A list of activities can be found on the church web site at www.ccfhaz.com.

There will also be several food trucks available for lunch as well as an ice cream vendor.

“It is our hope that our friends and neighbors will join us for a great celebration on Sunday,” Lawrence concluded.

The church is located at 15555 E. Bainbridge Avenue. For more information, visit the church web site or contact the church office at 837-3121.
