Church and state

The statement in last week’s letters to the editor that one couple would not support the National Day of Prayer because it “muddied” the waters between separation of church and state is grossly misguided.

From our country’s beginning throughout our history we have always had a national faith tradition. Our strength and prosperity is derived from our faith and devotion openly expressed to God.

The U.S. Bill of Rights, Article 1: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

There is no separation of church and state mentioned in the Bill of Rights. The bill only prohibits having a national religion like the Church of England or like the theocratic religious states in the Middle East.

The clause “separation of church and state” does not exist in the constitution.

Separation of church and state is a derived coined phrase by the anti-God and anti-Christian groups in their effort to drive God out of the public forum.

America has a rich history of God in the public forum. That has been our national strength and made us the greatest nation on Earth.

Any so-called Christian that supports secularization is not truly Christian, nor do they comprehend our American heritage of the past 238 years.
