Church of the Ascension’s crochet club makes art for a good cause

Church of the Ascension in Fountain Hills’ crochet club meets on the second and third Saturday of every month of the year besides December.

More than just a way to teach a popular technique for making textiles for members, the club crochets for a good cause.

“The first project that we did when we first started two years ago was hats for the homeless down at the Andre house in Phoenix. We’d done around 300 hats for them,” club leader Estella Holmes said. “We also made soap in a sock where you crochet a sack and put the soap in for the homeless so they can use it to shower or clean up. We made scarves for them. We made baby afghans for pregnant women who need blankets and booties and baby hats and stuff like that.”
