The second half of the concert is devoted to music of the Christmas season. A relatively new work by David Longfield entitled “And He Shall Be Named Emmanuel” will open the second portion with a fantasia-like setting of two famous carols arranged in the form of a processional. It is a stunning work, Madden said.
A special change of pace feature in the program will be the singing of two beautiful Christmas ballads by guest jazz vocalist Donna Wilde. She will be accompanied by Madden on piano with the band, which will be conducted by first trumpeter Al Roselieb in new musical arrangements especially scored for these holiday performances.
The concert closes with a tradition set by the band for its holiday concerts with the audience joining and singing with the band two famous carols.
