Community Band wraps up season Sunday

Posted

The public is cordially invited with free admission to the Gala Fifth Anniversary Concert by the fine 45-piece Fountain Hills Community Band.

The concert will be presented Sunday evening, March 30, at 7 p.m. at Christʼs Church of Fountain Hills. This will be the final concert of the season.

The more formal first half of the program will include the stirring and challenging “American Overture” written for the US Army Field Band of Washington, D.C. Guest conductor Al Roselieb will direct this wonderful work for band.

The lighter second part of the program will include songs from the Great American Songbook one with a vocal solo by Debby Fisher.

Trombonist Dale Larson, who was a founding member and former conductor of the band, will direct “Itʼs a Wonderful World,” exchanging places with the bandʼs present leader Eddie Madden as trombone soloist.

The ending portion of the second half will display the talents of the “in house” Fountain Hills Saxophone Quartet and Fountain Hills Brass Quintet. Special light jazz arrangements for the band with soloists will also be featured.

The concert will close with what has become this seasonʼs band signature piece. It is great fun for the musicians to perform and fun for audiences to hear Glenn Millerʼs famous WW II version of “The Saint Louis Blues March.”

The band is grateful for the excellent support the community has given to the organization.

“The audiences have been very generous in their enthusiasm and encouragement these past five years,” Madden said.

“It is the combination of this support and the wonderful musical camaraderie of the musicians that has made the Fountain Hills Concert Band a treasure of the community.”

Christʼs Church is at 15555 Bainbridge Avenue. The church is opposite the intersection with Glenbrook Boulevard.
