Fountain Hills community members gather to remember Pearl Harbor attack

Marine Corps League leads ceremony

The Marine Corps League Phil Yin Detachment #1439 hosted a Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day ceremony at 10 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, at American Legion Post 58, where residents gathered to honor the lives lost and the sacrifices made 83 years ago.

The event opened with a rendition of “Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue” by Toby Keith, followed by the presentation of colors by the American Legion Post 58 Color Guard. Chaplain Linda Smith offered an opening prayer and Al De Mange led attendees in the Pledge of Allegiance before the National Anthem was performed.

Marine Corps League Commandant David Nelson noted that this was the first time in 23 years that Pearl Harbor Day had fallen on a Sunday. He reflected on the significance of the attack, calling it a moment that changed the course of American history and expressed gratitude to veterans, families and community members who continue the tradition of remembrance.
