Compliments

My compliments to all involved in the project to repave Saguaro Blvd. It is a pleasure to drive on, and I never felt inconvenienced by all of the traffic rerouting that had to be done.

My concern now is keeping Saguaro well maintained. I hope the town engineering staff has reviewed their standards for making cuts in Saguaro Blvd. I hope that any utilities that want to cross Saguaro now will be required to tunnel underneath the road, instead of cut through it. If a cut has to be made, that it is repaired to the standard the road is built. The asphalt was laid in two layers and well compacted. A patch should be done in the same way, and the patch should be large enough that it can carry a large load.

The edges of the patch need to be sealed, not just once but repeatedly over the years. If the cuts are not sealed, water will seep into the road base and weaken it, and cause the road to deteriorate.

The town also needs to budget for future surface treatments to extend the life of Saguaro Blvd.
