Concrete poured for Dark Sky Discovery Center

Foundations for building are a start

Those living near the Civic Center in downtown Fountain Hills might have been awakened early a couple of days recently as concrete trucks were rolling onto the site of the International Dark Sky Discovery Center before sunrise.

After a couple of months of pushing dirt around the site to assure proper compaction, the first major step in seeing the building take shape occurred when it came time to pour the foundations.

According to McCarthy Construction Project Manager Brandon Gonzalez, more than 350 cubic yards of concrete were poured over two dates in late September. The foundations will support steel posts and masonry walls that will be part of the finished structure.
