Confusion over MCSO contract savings in Fountain Hills

I would like to respond to the letter by Michael Scott posted Wednesday, Feb. 19, titled “The Lack of process and transparency in Fountain Hills.”

Mr. Scott references a meeting with MCSO in August of 2023. He states that the meeting resulted in savings of over $722,000. This is inaccurate. This was money owed the town from the five-year audit of the MCSO contract. The audit clearly showed the town was overcharged for services MCSO was not fulfilling. The audit revealed the town was overcharged between $1.7M to $3.2M over the five-year period.

It is very disingenuous for Mr. Scott to claim savings which were actually money owed the town. Even with the credit for money owed to the town, there were no year-over-year savings as a result of the credit. I believe former Mayor Ginny Dickey made no effort to recoup the remaining money owed the town.
