It always seems to amaze me how challenged our town council is at handling finances. They all boast about being financially conservative and good stewards of the tax payer.

I opened the Fountain Hills Times two weeks ago and read the article about plans to reconstruct the intersection at La Montana and Avenue of the Fountains. Our town is in a cash flow crisis and not financially sound. Someone must turn things around!

There is talk about spending $140,000 to alter the intersection, but not before we spend a few thousand dollars on a study of traffic patterns. I wouldn’t call 12 fender-benders in five years a real problem.

The council must take care of what we have first, and hopefully in the not too distant future we can look at additional expenditures. Let’s get our streets repaired and maintain Fountain Park like it is a showcase – Oh, that’s right, it is supposed to be our showcase.

Fund and maintain what exists, grow and change when we can afford it, and when it makes good fiscal sense.
