Construction changes traffic on Saguaro

Motorists may find it best to avoid Saguaro Boulevard as construction progresses on the roadway rebuilding project.

As of Monday morning Nesbitt Contracting had shut down more of the southbound lanes and moved to two way traffic on the northbound side.

The southbound lanes are now closed between El Lago Boulevard and Ledferd Lane. The northbound lanes are handing traffic in both directions over that stretch and motorist are urged to obey traffic signs, speed limits and use extreme caution in traveling in the area.

Work has begun on removing curbing on the southbound lanes.

The intersection at El Lago and Saguaro has been established as a four-way stop calling on drivers to stop and proceed when appropriate.

Work continues on the repaving at the far north end of the project area between Fountain Hills Boulevard and La Montana Drive. Traffic has been restricted to one side over that stretch for several weeks now.

Town Development Services Director Paul Mood said the southbound lanes in that area should be ready for paving in two to three weeks.

At the intersection of Saguaro and Shea boulevards the contractor has flipped the traffic pattern to begin work on the medians. Southbound traffic approaching Shea is now restricted to just one lane at the intersection, which will lead to longer backups approaching the light.
