Controversy

I read about the recent fake controversy involving retired Sheriff Joe Arpaio. Some folks in town decided to have a dinner for him and his wife, honoring their years of service.

It was a nice gesture, held at the Community Center.

Town Manager Grady Miller determined that it was not a political event as all proceeds went to a local charity. Therefore, he waived the facilities rental fee for the event. Clearly, Mr. Miller made the right call. But the caterwauling that occurred in its wake by failed mayoral candidate Jenny Dickey was clearly political in nature.

Dicky presented some 90 signatures, no doubt from her core supporters, demanding that the town council revoke the town manager’s decision. This was nothing but a political stunt.

The proof? Dicky did not even bother to show up at the next Town Council meeting. Had she done so, she could have presented her case. She didn’t. Her action was as transparent as it was disingenuous. I dislike that Dickey impugned the integrity of Town Manager Grady Miller with this political stunt. She owes him an apology.
