How ironic that Chris Brant is so clear in his mind that, “the town obviously needs an extra source of income,” but then he makes a U-turn.
Brant’s “socialist” fear factor, laced in a potential 2 percent annual increase to the defeated property tax, is pretty worrisome. Let’s see, that’s two cents on a dollar. On the $7 million proposed property tax, about $140,000 a year town-wide; which averages less than $10 per year. Wow, there’s socialism at work!

Or is it something else? In fact, (he may not be clear on state law) the 2 percent increase is mandated in statute as the required ballot language, but it is a discretionary decision to be made by the Council annually. A Council he doesn’t trust. A Council that includes Cecil Yates.
But he goes even further. The very person who has widely-publicized a proposal for a committee to advise the town on how to address the shortfall, he won’t vote for! That is Ginny Dickey.
Convenient how he’s certainly willing to tell us who should be on this “roundtable” without accurately citing where the concept originated. How soon before another candidate tries to “borrow” this idea of citizen oversight as well from Ginny’s transparent and inclusive approach to governing?
