Fountain Hills council addresses use of artificial intelligence

Adopts ethical AI policy

Fountain Hills Town Council has adopted a policy to provide for the ethical use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the workplace.

With a unanimous vote, the council put into place a new policy for the governance of AI technologies to “benefit the community and protect the rights and privacy of the residents of Fountain Hills.”

Although the proposal for a policy was brought forward by a council member, the town’s Information Technology Administrator Mike Ciccarone said such policies are catching on fast. Ciccarone sits on the Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) Technical Advisory Group, and he said the group has been working on this for some time.
