Council asked to OK new trail

When the Town Council meets this week it will consider a proposal from the McDowell Mountain Preservation Commission to construct an additional trail through the Fountain Hills Preserve.

The trail would be a two-mile secondary loop of the Sonoran Trail to be called East Loop Sonoran Trail.

It would run somewhat parallel to the existing Sonoran Trail keeping closer to the Eagles Nest subdivision. The plan calls for a 200-foot buffer between the trail and any residential lots.

Council asked to OK new trail

Posted

When the Town Council meets this week it will consider a proposal from the McDowell Mountain Preservation Commission to construct an additional trail through the Fountain Hills Preserve.

The trail would be a two-mile secondary loop of the Sonoran Trail to be called East Loop Sonoran Trail.

It would run somewhat parallel to the existing Sonoran Trail keeping closer to the Eagles Nest subdivision. The plan calls for a 200-foot buffer between the trail and any residential lots.

There is also a plan for trail links that would provide for shorter loop routes within the Preserve.

The trail would be built by the Trailblazers with the Sonoran Conservancy at no cost to the town.

Bill Craig, head of the conservancy’s Trailblazers, will make the presentation to the Town Council.

The council also has on the agenda consideration of adopting a Capital Asset Policy.

There will also be consideration of several cell tower special use permit requests that were recommended by the Planning and Zoning Commission.

Those include two cactus antennas within the FireRock Country Club, a mono-palm palm tree inside the Van’s Storage lot at Laser and Technology Drives as well as a telemetry tower, also disguised as a palm tree, at a water well site on the Desert Canyon Golf Club.

The council consent agenda includes approval of an agreement for billing services to implement the town’s environmental fee program (see separate story). Also a purchase agreement for voice and data services with AT&T, and a final plat and cut and fill waivers for a 64-unit condominium project in FireRock Country Club.

The Town Council will meet Thursday, Aug. 6, at 6:30 p.m. in council chambers at Town Hall. The meeting is open to the public.
