Fountain Hills Town Council delays action on lease agreement

For ambulance crew at fire station

The Fountain Hills Town Council has delayed a vote on a lease agreement with AMR to provide quarters and parking for an ambulance crew at a Fountain Hills fire station.

Councilwoman Brenda Kalivianakis asked that the item be removed from the council’s Feb. 21 consent agenda for discussion. She wondered whether the amount of the lease is appropriate and whether automatic increases should be tied to the consumer price index rather than a flat 3%. Kalivianakis said she believes the $31,500 per year to be “extraordinarily low” and finds it “offensive.”

The vote was 4-3 to continue the item until the council’s second meeting in March to allow for further discussion. Kalivianakis was joined by Council Members Gerry Friedel, Allen Skillicorn and Hannah Toth in asking for the delay. Mayor Ginny Dickey, Vice Mayor Sharron Grzybowski and Councilwoman Peggy McMahon supported the proposed agreement.
