Council denies contract extension, two days for weather only

The Town Council clearly had no patience for a request from Low Mountain Construction for more time to complete the Avenue of the Fountains improvement project without penalty.

The project is under contract to be completed by Oct. 20, in a letter sent to the town Sept. 26, asking for an additional 18 days to Nov. 7 to complete the work.

The contract called for a 180 schedule for completion and every additional day beyond that costs the contractor $710 per day.

The council did vote to give an additional two days due to weather conditions, but were clearly unimpressed by the other issues raised by the contractor.

“This job has been poorly manned. I’ve had more calls about this project than I did about the trash hauling issue.

“You need to act like you want to get the job done. Roll your sleeves up and get to work.

“We were told repeatedly that we are on schedule,” Councilman Tait Elkie said. “It is quite embarrassing to have this come before us.”
