When Town Council meets on Thursday it will consider a change to what is almost a time-honored tradition in the community. The council has met on the first and third Thursday of the month for at least 20 years (maybe since incorporation; we could not confirm the earlier dates).
This week’s agenda proposes a change to either Tuesday or Wednesday. We certainly would not object to any change. The council can meet when it deems fit and we will do our job accordingly. We do agree with Town Manager Grady Miller that Thursday is not the most efficient time to meet, not only for staff to implement council directives, but for us at The Times.
If there is follow up for a story it has to wait until Monday, when we are also trying to meet production needs for the week.

As for Tuesday or Wednesday, again we will work with either, however, we do see an issue with Tuesday; that deals with our job in informing the public what is on the agenda for the week’s session. Currently agendas are posted the Thursday prior (one week) before the meeting.
We understand these are unofficial postings (24 hours before the meeting is allowed by law), but they almost never change and we do have an opportunity to write a preview to appear in The Times the Wednesday before the meeting.
If the meeting date changes to Tuesday we will be unable to get a story about the session in print prior to the meeting.
