The Town Council met in a retreat session Wednesday morning to offer staff guidance regarding budget direction for the 2014/2015 fiscal year.
The council talked about the need for a facilities replacement and repair fund to keep up with major maintenance needs. Town Hall is the newest facility owned by the town and that is approaching 10 years old.
The council also talked about the pavement management plan and some on the council expressed concern about funding for asphalt replacement on neighborhood streets. It appears this will be a significantly long-term objective due to the lack of a revenue source.

That funding concern turned to a discussion regarding sustainability for the town and where revenue would come from for basic needs going forward.
The council also began its annual debate regarding the community services contracts it uses with non-profit entities to supplement town programs. Town Manager Ken Buchanan proposed a community benefits grant program as an option to the current contract program.
Staff will use the input it received from council members as work on the new budget progresses.
