Council tackles parking issues

At its June 1 regular session the Town Council took an initial step in addressing several parking issues that have come up around town.

The council approved the proposed amendments to the Town Code and will bring changes to the Zoning Ordinance back at a later date.

In her staff report to the council Senior Planner Marisa Moore stated, “The recommended amendments to the Town Code are intended to address residential parking requirements. While this often is associated with districts zoned as residential, these amendments would apply town-wide to include those areas that are not zoned as residential but include residential uses; for example areas in the Town Center Commercial District are allowed to have both residential and commercial uses.”

As adopted, the amendments clarify criminal and civil traffic penalties, provide a definition of abandoned vehicles, clarification related to unsheltered storage, provisions for abatement of abandoned vehicles with penalties, a definition for commercial vehicles is clarified and provisions are included setting a maximum number of vehicles parked outside an enclosed area per residential single family dwelling unit.

The vehicle limit written in the ordinance is one vehicle per 750 square feet of livable area in a residence as specified by the county assessor’s office.

The council approved the amendments with little discussion on a 7-0 vote.
